CrossFit and Chiropractic Care

December 16, 2014 By eChiropractor Team

CrossFit training is very intense.  Participants may need chiropractic care to recover from injuries or to perform at their peak.

What is CrossFit?

A CrossFit training program consists of conditioning and strength exercises.  The program is scaled for “load and intensity” depending on the person participating.  The routines used are the same for “cage fighters (and) elderly individuals with heart disease”.  CrossFit training is used in police academies, by martial artists, and by many other types of athletes.  Training, trainer certifications, and seminars are offered by CrossFit.  There are even military CrossFit workouts.1  Some of the exercises included are squats, tabata (20 seconds of reps for an exercise), farmer’s walk (walking for distance with CrossFit and Chiropractic Caredumbbells), waiter’s walk (holding weights overhead while walking), pull-ups or chin-ups, straight-arm pull to inverted hang, presses, burpees (squat-thrusts), Samson stretch (interlaced fingers, overhead with palms up, while sinking into a lunge), sit-ups, and more.2  One facility for CrossFit training is in San Diego, CA:  CrossFit Invictus.  The exercise equipment found at this location include kettle bells, barbells, pull-up bars, and areas for running, climbing, lifting, jumping, squatting, and throwing.  Workouts are varied to eliminate boredom.3  The CrossFit Invictus workouts can help players train and prepare for competitions.4

RockTape and CrossFit Games

People can participate in the CrossFit Games, which began in 2007 as “the world’s premier test to find the Fittest on Earth™”.  The Games are divided into three stages.  The Open is an inclusive competition that lasts 5 weeks.  The Regionals are a live competition that last 3 days.  Finally, the CrossFit Games are for the top 100 men and women worldwide.  Reebok sponsored the 2014 games.5  RockTape is a product that can be used to help athletes perform at their highest level, especially if they have to work around an injury.  It can promote blood flow, protect hands, shins, and wrists, resolve shoulder and knee issues, and “reduce swelling (and) stabilize weak structures”.  CrossFit athletes often use RockTape, and RockTape offers classes to help athletes learn to use the product.6

Chiropractic Care

Whether an athlete has a CrossFit shoulder injury, or some other type of pain, a chiropractor can provide help.  In addition, regular chiropractic care can be part of a healthy lifestyle, allowing patients and athletes to perform at their best.  Athletes often compensate for injuries, which leads to other body parts becoming strained or moved out of alignment.  An imbalanced body affects athletic performance.  Chiropractic care, with or without massage, every week or every other week can help keep the body strong and allow it to recover from strains.7
