A Chiroflow Pillow Can Do Wonders For Your Sleep

September 25, 2019 By eChiropractor Team

What is a Chiroflow Pillow?

Chiroflow Pillow

A Chiroflow pillow, by design, promotes cervical support throughout the night.  Often, patients move their heads and bodies during sleep.  As a result, patients often wake up in uncomfortable positions.  The Chiroflow waterbase pillow is made up of hypoallergenic polyester fiber, a thermal insulator, and a waterbase.  The pillow is customizable.  Specifically, patients can add or remove water from the pillow to reach their desired comfort level.  Some patients like a soft pillow, and other patients prefer a firm pillow.  At night, the Chiroflow water pillow adjusts to the patient’s head movement to maintain cervical support.  Of course, the waterbase plays a key role.  Patients wake up less often, and they will start the day feeling refreshed.  Spinal misalignment is the cause of many aches and pains, and a Chiroflow pillow is one thing that can help combat such physical ailments.1

How the Wrong Bed Causes Problems

The prone position puts pressure on the body in a way that is different from what an upright body experiences, and it is important to rest with the proper support.  Often, patients become used to their own mattress preference.  For example, some patients prefer a firm mattress while other patients prefer a mattress that is soft.  As a result, it is often more difficult to sleep comfortably in a new environment.  For instance, many travelers struggle to get proper sleep on unfamiliar mattresses and pillows.  Unfortunately, restless sleep can cause back and neck pain, and the effects of poor rest often linger throughout the day.  Most patients spend about a third of their life lying on a mattress, and the negative effects of an improper sleeping environment add up.  Fortunately, a Chiroflow pillow and the right mattress can help alleviate many issues.2

Other Causes of Neck Pain

In addition to poor ergonomics during rest, neck pain is one of the most common complaints.  In fact, there are many disorders and diseases that cause neck pain.  For example, degenerative disc disease, neck strain, osteoarthritis, cervical spondylosis, spinal stenosis, poor posture, whiplash, herniated disc, and cervical radiculopathy are all causes of neck pain.  Neck pain is also a symptom of throat infections, such as a virus or the more serious tuberculosis and meningitis.  Even patients who follow safety regulations cannot always prevent neck pain.  Additionally, symptoms associated with neck pain are aching, numbness, tingling, tenderness, range-of-motion difficulty, and dizziness.  Often, shoulder and back pain are related to neck pain.  Some symptoms are evidence of a more serious condition, and patients who experience neck pain after a physically traumatic event should consult a medical professional.3

The Chiroflow pillow can be purchased from its official website.  However, the website is mainly meant for doctors.  The Chiroflow pillow can also be bought through other retailers, such as Amazon.  Patients have to fill the pillow with their desired amount of water, and the water should be changed about once a year.  The thermal insulator is meant to keep the pillow cool, and it lends additional density to the pillow.  The Chiroflow pillow should be relatively quiet even though it is filled with water, and patients have to push out air pockets when they fill the pillow with water.  Of course, the amount of water patients should add depends on personal preference.  Additionally, some patients may find the sound of water movement to be relaxing.  Reviews of the pillow are generally favorable, though some patients find the Chiroflow pillow to be too thick for their preference.4

On the other hand, another waterbase pillow on the market is the Mediflow pillow.  Of course, both pillows allow the patient to adjust the internal water levels.  Cotton and polyester cover the Chiroflow pillow.  Cotton covers the Mediflow pillow.  The filling of the Chiroflow pillow is also polyester, and the Mediflow pillow offers a few filling options.  Overall, both pillows share many common traits.  Additionally, their advantages and disadvantages are also very similar.  The pillows are heavy when they are filled with water, and they are more firm than other types of pillows.  Both pillows offer notable support due to their waterbases, and both pillows are easy to machine wash and maintain.  As a result, patient preference is the primary deciding factor.  Patients may prefer a polyester cover over a cotton cover, or vice versa.5

Waterbase pillows, such as the Chiroflow pillow, are not the only types of ergonomic pillows on the market.  In general, side and back sleeping are the best positions to avoid neck pain.  There are many pillows that support proper sleeping positions.  First, rounded pillows support natural spinal curvature.  Second, feather pillows are soft and comfortable for the head.  Third, memory foam pillows support the neck.  Patients should find the right pillow for their body type, and there are many options.  The Epabo Contour Memory Foam Pillow is designed with ergonomic contours for the neck.  The Purple Pillow is a supportive grid made of polymer, and it will not lose its shape like other types of pillows.  The Coop Home Goods Eden Shredded Memory Foam Pillow is filled with shredded foam for breathability.  The Emolli Contour Memory Foam Pillow is also shaped for the neck.6

Chiropractic Care for Neck Pain

In addition to the right pillow, mattress, office furniture, and posture, patients can still experience neck pain from daily life events.  Often, chiropractors address the source of the neck pain to provide long-term relief.  In fact, chiropractic care is sought more often than yoga, massage, and acupuncture to treat pain.  Chiropractors employ spinal adjustments to treat misalignment and reduce pain, and patients may need to visit the chiropractor multiple times to experience relief.  Cervical manipulation releases pinched nerves, calms muscle spasms, and brings vertebrae back into alignment.  Patients should consult their primary healthcare provider before seeking chiropractic care for certain traumatic injuries, and chiropractors cannot safely treat certain injuries.  Chiropractors can earn degrees from properly accredited colleges, and patients should only receive treatment from trained chiropractors.  It takes several years to earn a degree in chiropractic care, and there are safety regulations to follow.7
