About the Institute
The Massage Therapy Institute was established in 1992 by two masseurs, Tammy and Larry Friedrichs in Decatur, Alabama. The Institute is licensed by the Alabama Board of Massage Therapy, and staff is dedicated to providing students with a well rounded education both in and outside of the classroom. All instructors are members of the Associate Bodywork and Massage Professionals who have years of experience to share with students about building and maintaining a successful massage therapy career. Students are trained to become sensitive and creative healthcare practitioners.
Curriculum and Requirements
The curriculum meets all the requirements for the national certification and state license. Each student will complete a minimum of 670 hours in courses such as Human Anatomy and Physiology, Specialized Massage, Physical Exercise, Business and several others. Students must achieve at least a 75% in each class to graduate and are graded on written and practical exams. In order to enroll in the Massage Therapy Institute, the student must be 18 years or older and have obtained a high school diploma or G.E.D. All students will be interviewed by a director and will undergo a background screening. The program is 1 year long and will cost students approximately $7,300 or $15 dollars per classroom hour if taken individually.
