A massage in Shanghai is focused around two primary teachings in China. You have a choice of either receiving a traditional Chinese massage or a Thai massage.

Chinese Massage

A Chinese massage is focused around the pressure points in the body. The Chinese believe that the pressure points are essential in releasing the toxins and increasing the energy flows within the entire body. The massage is focused around stimulating the muscles and use pulling and rubbing motions to increase the flow to the meridians within the body. The Chinese massage process can seem somewhat abrasive as it’s not a relaxing massage such as Swedish American massage. This massage is solely there to release any of the toxins while increasing the energy flows. It’s also an option for the patient to receive acupuncture right after the massage. Traditionally, they will use acupuncture but you can request that this is not to be used.

Thai Massage

The Thai massage on the other hand is a little more calming and relaxing the client, they actually use stretching techniques to help alleviate the tension before they begin to massage the client. They also use their knees as well as their arms and legs to massage the client. This allows the massage therapist to put larger amounts of pressure to the areas where the client may need some extra assistance. The Thai massage is not done on a massage table, as this won’t allow the massage therapist to use their knees and legs to help stretch and massage your back and neck. You will lie flat on a floor mat similar to an exercise mat, you are also asked to bring comfortable clothing like the clothing you would wear during a yoga session. You can request the massage to be completed within an hour or even two hours. The pricing will vary at each location but you can generally get a good massage within an hour time frame. If you are looking for complete relaxation, two hours will definitely allow you to totally relax. This is not recommended for pregnant women or people with serious underlying conditions. It’s important to always consult with your doctor before starting any massage regiment.

It’s essential that you do thorough research before pursuing your education in massage therapy. You want to always research at least five to six schools before you choose where you want to attend massage therapy classes. It’s also important to determine what type of massage therapist you want to become. Some massage therapists may decide to practice massage therapy out of their home, while others want to go into the management or teaching side of massage therapy.

Massage Therapy License

It’s also imperative that you research whether the school will assist you in obtaining your board certified massage therapist license. You have to be licensed within your state in order to practice massage therapy. Unfortunately, some schools only teach you a few massage classes that don’t prep you for the actual testing or certification. You want to ensure that the school you are attending is going to prepare you for the examinations and allow you to practice massage therapy after you are finished with the program. It’s also very important that the school you are attending is actually accredited by the state you live in. Schools that are not accredited may also prevent you from obtaining your massage therapy license or taking the certification test. Most all massage therapy schools will have an externship program on top of the regular in house training by the instructor. This will vary by each state, and hours needed to obtain your internship may fluctuate by state. This training will further assist the massage therapist in applying and learning different massage techniques and therapies to their actual client. This is the best way for a massage therapist to learn different massage techniques. Massage therapy schools may also offer career placement and financial aid options. It’s important you meet with your school counselor to determine what will be available for you.

Chiropractic Massage Tables

Chiropractic massage tables are used to provide a therapeutic massage on the patient’s spine. There are several examples of chiropractic massage tables used within the industry. Depending on the patient’s condition, chiropractic massage tables are typically beneficial in improving existing conditions. The physician will conduct a health examination with the patient prior to treatment to determine the appropriate chiropractic massage table for treatment.

Types

The chiropractic massage table is a basic stationary table where patients receive hands-on massages. Some patients don’t like hands on massages. For that reason, a chiropractic water massage table is more suitable because patients don’t have to be touched or remove clothing. Chiropractic water massage tables combine heat, massage and water to provide a therapeutic experience. The water jet massage provides a fully clothed, dry massage. Physicians may also use a Chiropractic Motorized Massage Table to knead out knots or sooth tender muscles. The table includes rolling bars that travel along the upper and lower part of the body. Researchers say that the rollers separate and lift various parts of the spine. Rollers elevate the back to increase the intensity of pressure during the massage session. Although many people find this massage beneficial, others say that the bars on the table are painful and tend to be too harsh in some areas of the body. Depending on the existing health condition, some individuals may experience severe pain when the rollers move along the spine. Those who don’t like Chiropractic Motorized Massage Table may prefer the chiropractic water massage table as it is gentler on tender or achy muscles.

Chiropractice, also known as Chiropractic, care should only be performed by real Chiropractor. Chiropractors have to go through seven years of Chiropractic schooling and take all the necessary state board licensure testing in order to practice Chiropractic care. You should never receive adjustments from a massage therapist or friend, unless they are also a state licensed Chiropractor. Chiropractic care has been around for thousands of years. It started out in 1895 by Dr. Palmer and has evolved over the years.

Today’s Chiropractic care

Today, there are several different machines and extra tools that can be used to assist the patients in their recovery time. Today there are moist heat machines that help to assist the patients in relaxing before receiving their adjustments. There are also traction devices which assist in the adjustments holding better along with other machines to assist in the removal of built up scar tissue around the joints. Each Chiropractor will have different machines and extra tools available to the patient if needed. Chiropractic care is recommended for all age groups, babies, teenagers, the elderly, and adults. They can all benefit from receiving chiropractic care and adjustments. Most Chiropractors also take all major insurance cards. Most insurance companies support Chiropractic care and have an allotment you can use each year. Some Chiropractors also have in house massage therapists on staff. This is another benefit to the patient as some insurance policies also allow for an allotment for massages through your Chiropractor. You can call your insurance company to get more information on the allotment you are allowed per year, and which doctors are covered through your insurance policy.

Chiropractic massage is very beneficial for someone who is struggling with tension or pain within their neck, back, legs, or arms. A chiropractic massage can be done either before or after being adjusted. Generally your Chiropractor will suggest to you which method will be the most beneficial for your treatment that day. Your Chiropractor will also work closely with the massage therapist to ensure the areas you need worked on will be treated carefully. This will assist in holding the adjustments longer.

Benefits

Patients that receive regular Chiropractic massages on a regular basis feel less tension, pain and stress in their body. It truly helps to release any underlying toxins and it gives the patient a relaxing experience. Some massages can also be covered by a patient’s medical insurance; there may be an allotment that can be used for Chiropractic care and massages. Or, the patient can choose to pay out of pocket for the massage. Prices will vary at each location along with time allotments. Typically, most Chiropractic offices will offer thirty minute massages to ninety minute massages. Some clinics may also offer specialty massages such as the hot stone massage or aromatherapy. If the client is paying full cash, there may also be massage packages or deals offered seasonally or on a regular basis to the customer.

In the Workplace

Chiropractic massage is also offered in the workplace. Many Chiropractic clinics are now coming to various workplaces to offer a total wellness program to those at work. It’s great for someone who cannot get out to receive a massage on a monthly basis, or for someone who regularly sees a Chiropractor and doesn’t have the time to schedule a massage before or after the adjustments are made. You can also call your local office to see if they offer on site massages so they can come to your office on your break at work. They may also do individual calls or group rates depending on your location or employer.

Myofascial release is a great alternative treatment that is available for patients, It helps to increase mobility and is 100% safe and effective. A patient receives the myofascial release during their massage. Unlike a regular massage the myofascial release massage actually breaks up those areas where the tension lies. The massage therapist uses massage techniques and manipulations to reach the fascia. Then they use pressure point techniques to break away the tightened areas. A massage therapist will stretch and relax the muscles before attempting to use the myofascial release on a client. The client must be relaxed and massaged for several minutes before the myofascial techniques are used. Myofascial release is a great option for patients with back and neck pain, along with poor posture or even fibromyalgia. The trigger point myofascial really works on specific areas. Over time the patient will feel pain relief in the areas that were tight and sore. Clients are able to see lasting relief. However, in most cases patients will have to go through a treatment plan before they see results. Your massage therapist will normally let you know how many times you need to come in and receive the myofascial release. For some patients that have acute pain, they may only need to be seen once or twice a month. Clients that have severe issues may need to be seen three to four times a month. This will depend on the intensity of the pain and the issues at hand. Myofascial release is not taught to every massage therapist. You can call your local spa, chiropractic massage clinic, or massage therapy clinic ahead to find out if they do have someone who can perform this treatment. In most cases you will find Chiropractic massage therapists to have the most knowledge in this treatment. Spas typically don’t have a lot of massage therapists on board that can perform this. It’s important to call ahead to ensure you can receive this treatment before visiting you local spa or massage therapy clinic.

Benefits of Home Massage

An at home massage is a great alternative for someone who cannot make it in to the massage therapy clinic. Patients are able to get total convenience and schedule a massage in the comfort of their home. It is becoming very popular for those who have busy schedules or debilitating issues that prevent them from receiving a massage at the spa or clinic. A home massage is done the same way as a traditional massage. Massage therapists will typically bring a table along with a variety of different lotions or massage oils. Some massage therapists will also bring candles and aromatherapy oils along with extra amenities at your request.

Different options

Every home massage is different, and each massage therapist will offer different options for you. A lot of patients that are wheelchair bound will also receive in-home massages. This helps with the elasticity in the patient’s skin, along with the circulation within the body. There are a number of people that also have debilitating issues or diseases that may prevent them from operating a vehicle. This is a great alternative for the patient who cannot make it into the office.

Benefits

A large number of patients that have medical issues or cannot exercise find massage as a great stress reliever and pain reliever. Massage also helps to release the extra toxins and build up within the muscles. Home massage is offered in all major cities and suburbs. Your spa or local massage therapy clinic may also do house calls on occasions. Many clients will book massage spa parties at home, or bridal shower spa parties. You can often call ahead to ask for specials and pricing to locate the best deal and location nearest you. Home massage is not for everyone. Clients that don’t have the space to set up a table in their apartment or home are left with few options. Home massage is great for someone who has a quiet room that is away from the noise within the house. It’s important to have an open room the massage therapist can use to ensure the relaxation is complete.

Why Massage Therapy?

Massage therapy is an effective healthcare module that treats problem areas through muscle manipulation. More people are using massage therapy as a resource for relieving back pain, tension headaches, stiffness, and fatigue, making it a promising career field for future massage therapists. In the past, massage therapy was viewed as an alternative to treatment. Now, massage is a crucial part of treatment in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and sports facilities. In just two years, the number of hospitals that use massage therapy has increased by 30 percent. In 2009, 90% of adults believe that massage therapy has been beneficial to their health. With these increasing statistics, the job opportunities for massage therapists are promising.

Earn Your Degree from the Soma Institute

At the Soma Institute in Chicago, students are trained in trigger point therapy, neuromuscular techniques, hydrotherapy, and sports massage. Instructors at Soma work to prepare their students for the massage therapy certification exam upon graduation. Completing the massage therapy program at the Soma Institute gives students a better opportunity to start a successful career. The Soma Institute requires students to complete a 750 hour program. The courses and training offered at Soma exceed the licensing requirement in Illinois as well as other states. Graduates are well prepared to begin their careers in the massage industry after graduation. At Soma, student’s education goes beyond lectures and textbooks and into real-world situations that provide hands-on experience. The Soma Institute is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education & Training (ACCET), which is a nationally recognized accrediting agency. Individuals seeking a massage therapy degree should look into one of Chicago’s famous massage schools and seek all the opportunities that this institute can provide.

There are many different treatments available when it comes to back therapy. It’s important that a patient always thoroughly research all of their options before committing to a doctor or product. If you are in severe back pain you should always consult with your doctor, as they will offer the tailored treatment plan you need. The doctor can also x-ray and prescribe medication if needed. In some cases your back pain may be a result from a sprain or injury. It’s vital to consult with your doctor first before trying over the counter product as these may offer little help. In some cases surgery may be needed. This is always the last resort and only used if all other options are exhausted.

Chiropractic

If your doctor states that you don’t require surgery, you may often be referred to a Chiropractor or physical therapist. The physical therapist and Chiropractor offer targeted exercises and adjustments that will help to alleviate your sources of your pain. Chiropractors use adjustment methods that help to align the body back to its natural positioning. The back, neck and spine are first x-rayed and then adjusted to ensure the patient doesn’t feel the same pain radiating in their back.

Physical Therapy

The physical therapists will help the patient to stretch and exercise their back while in their clinic. The stretching and exercising will help to strengthen the muscles within the back and spine. Strengthening these muscles will also assist in increasing the circulation and regaining the strength in the back and neck. Another method a patient can use is incorporating over the counter back products. Back pillows, neck pillows, and massage chairs can all assist the patient with managing their back pain. Always consult with your doctor or physical therapist before purchasing an over the counter products. They can often offer the best alternatives and advice as to what works and what products don’t offer much assistance.
