Spinal rehabilitation is only used when you have experienced an injury within the spine or if you are someone who is currently recuperating from spinal pain.  Spinal rehabilitation is a process- one treatment or one visit to your doctor is not going to cure your pain.  It’s important that the patient take their treatment seriously, as spinal rehabilitation will take time and the healing process will be gradual.  Each spinal rehabilitation program will be very different, and your doctor will tailor this specifically to you to suit your needs.  It’s also up to the patient on what treatment options they would feel most comfortable with.  The longer treatment plans are typically given to patients who have experienced more severe injuries.  Shorter treatment plans are tailored to less severe injuries or patients who are experiencing acute pain.   A patient has several options when seeking to find someone who specializes in spinal rehabilitation.  A patient can choose to go see a chiropractor, physical therapis,t or a specialist.  If you are a patient that just underwent surgery you will be prescribed treatment options.  The doctor will give you orders on what treatment plan will suit your recovery.  You may also talk to your doctor about other alternative types of treatment such as herbal medications or acupuncture to help with the severity of the pain.  Your doctor will let you know if this will be a good or bad option for your recovery.  In most cases, both chiropractors and physical therapists will help the patient do a series of exercises and stretches to help strengthen and regain control of the spine.  Chiropractors will also help the patient by using different in-house treatments, such as traction and adjusting the spine back into its natural state.  Physical therapists, on the other hand, will deal specifically with exercise.  The physical therapist will help the patient do a series of exercises that will strengthen and increase the range of motion in their spine.  This will be done both in-house and at home, it’s essential that the patient continue their treatments at home to ensure that their recovery time is shorter.
