Soft Drinks and Your Health

 soft drinks

Soda is one of the worst beverages you can possibly consume!  Soft drinks contain no nutritional value whatsoever.  However, soda does contain and simple sugars, both of which are horrible for your health.  These drinks are also very damaging to your teeth causing tooth decay.  In addition, soft drinks also cause degenerative diseases like Type II Diabetes and heart disease.  Most drinks contain high added amounts of simple sugar like fructose.  The USDA recommendation of sugar consumption is less than 10 teaspoons per day.  Typically, the average soft drink contains more than this entire daily amount!  When sugar enters your bloodstream, the pancreas produces and releases insulin.  When you ingest too much sugar your body raises insulin levels.  Elevated insulin levels can lead to decreased immunity.  When an individual has a decreased immune system, their body is unable to ward off foreign invaders, diseases.  Excess sugar can then be stored as body fat which can contribute to excessive weight gain and even lead to degenerative diseases like heart disease and some cancers.

Diet Soda

Many individuals think that diet soda is the better alternative.  This is far from the truth.  Diet soda is filled with artificial sweeteners which have been linked to cause cancer.  These sweeteners include but are not limited to the following: aspartame, sucralose, and saccharin.  These have been found to cause cancer.  In addition, aspartame has been linked to cause obesity and brain stimulus.  Soda can deplete the blood calcium levels which can lead to Osteoporosis.

Water

Water is crucial to life and a healthy body.  All cells in the human body need adequate water to function properly.  As a general rule, you need at least half your body weight of water per day to survive.  Severe dehydration causes your body to not function properly and the muscles, joints, and ligaments to become taut and fixated.  Beverages like soda, tea, and coffee are all diuretics so they dehydrate our bodies.  When you’re physically active or in warm environments you need to consume even more water than average because your body is sweating out the water reserves.  Soft Drinks and Your Health can cause adverse reactions.  It is extremely important to maintain a proper diet and to exercise regularly.  You need increased amounts of water in your body to metabolize fat.  Without it, this task of weight loss becomes much more difficult overall.
