Neck Pain

Causes of Neck Pain

Many people think chiropractors twist the neck or perform painful procedures to relieve neck pain.  The procedure is actually therapeutic for people suffering from sore and tender neck muscles.  The goals of neck manipulation are to improve the overall condition of the spine and return movement in restricted spinal joints.  The neck can sustain pain from an injury causing strained muscles and ligaments.  Another cause of neck pain includes a condition called postural stress.  Postural stress is caused by soreness and muscle tension in the upper region of the back.  This condition is caused from sitting at a desk for long periods of time over many years.  Patients who have poor posture may also suffer from muscular tightness in the neck and the upper back.

Visit the Chiropractor

The chiropractor uses non-invasive methods to provide neck pain relief.  The chiropractor will diagnose neck pain by asking the patient questions about any recent accidents or injuries.  They will inquire about any trauma to the neck and proceed with x-rays if necessary.  The doctor will also ask if shoulder pain, numbness, or headaches have accompanied neck pain.  It is common that people who sustain neck injuries may suffer from muscle spasms or muscle strains.  Neck spasms are contracting muscles caused by poor posture and lack of exercise programs.  It is important that the chiropractor asks about current medical conditions and conducts an in-depth interview on the patient’s past accident history.
