A neck doctor can range from a very specialized orthopedic spine surgeon to a generalized physician or chiropractor.  It’s important to first analyze what kind or pain you are experiencing before you make the first call to see your physician. Neck pain can be caused by a number of different daily activities such as poor positioning, exercising improperly or not correctly stretching before and after exercise.  A neck doctor typically treats the back and spine, as the neck is directly attached to the back and spine and spinal nerves attached.  Neck pain can also start due to a severe or slight back injury or acute back pain, in most cases it’s related to a strain in the muscle.  It’s very important to first get a proper analysis and overview by your doctor, and your physician can asses and see what is causing this initial neck pain or problem.  A neck pain can be acute or even be a result due to a serious injury, if the pain doesn’t dissipate you need to make an appointment with your physician immediately to ensure their isn’t any further damage to the nerves or neck.  A neck doctor can properly come up with a regulated treatment plan that will ensure that your pain will lessen over time.  At this time there no treatment plan that offers instant immediate relief or recovery as the muscles in the neck take time to regain their strength and heal back to its proper balance.   At home care is just as vital as seeing your doctor for ongoing care and maintenance, and your doctor will also assist you in coming up with an exercise plan that will help to stretch and balance out the neck muscles. In some cases medication will also be prescribed to reduce the pain or swelling felt by the beck pain or injury that is diagnosed.  Other recommendations that are typically made are ongoing massages along with medicated creams and ice packs.  Ice packs are typically left off for ten to fifteen minutes to reduce the pain and swelling felt in the neck muscles or surrounding areas.
