Lower Back Chiropractic

Lower back chiropractic is the administration of chiropractic care for low back complaints through adjustments and physiotherapy modalities.  The number one reason why Americans have work absenteeism is low back pain, costing companies tax-dollars.  Fortunately, chiropractic care can help.  Chiropractic is an alternative medicine that thinks of the body as a whole instead of parts, contrary to the general medical society.  Chiropractic believes that the body’s innate intelligence is a self-regulating, self-limiting machine that can heal itself from the inside out.  Chiropractic was the first profession to coin the term subluxation and it still surrounds the philosophy today.  According to www.chiro.org, the word “subluxation” comes from the Latin words meaning to “dislocate” (luxare) and “somewhat or slightly” (sub.).

Chiropractors believe that a subluxation is caused from trauma or taut muscles that pull on the bones of the spine or extremities out of its proper alignment; therefore causing misalignment or subluxation.  Subluxations cause the bones to press on the nerves which in turn disrupt nerve conduction to crucial bodily organs.  Some common complaints of lower back pain include: facet hypertrophy, disc encroachment and herniations, spondylosis, repetitive stress and overuse injuries, trauma, congenital abnormalities, malignancies, neoplasms and arthritides, and systemic infections.  Chiropractic can manage or co-treat all of these conditions.  Proper diagnosis is the key in determining the disease to sufficiently treat the patient and not mis-diagnose them or delay care to the appropriate medical practitioner.  After determining the diagnosis, treatment is begun and goals are set.  The chiropractor will deliver specific adjustments in the proper line of drive to correct the spinal or extra-spinal (extremity) subluxations.  He or she may also incorporate physiotherapy modalities to further help the healing process and decrease pain and increase range of motion.  Lower back pain is a very treatable condition with chiropractic and patients should never suffer in silence.
