Herniated Disc Chiropractic

A Herniated disc chiropractic treatment offers a holistic approach to treating the pain associated with the disc.  There are many different options when seeking treatment for a herniated disc.  A chiropractor will offer treatment without the use of addictive pain medications.  Unfortunately most medical doctors will generally only prescribe a patient a daily dose of medication. A chiropractor can offer a structured treatment plan for the patient that is designed to alleviate the pain or spasms the patient is feeling.  This treatment plan will vary with each patient’s severity and original diagnosis.

Chiropractic Assessment

A chiropractor will first take x-rays of the patient to assess the original damage.  Next, the chiropractor will do testing to determine the patients overall range of motion within their spine.  Then, the chiropractor will measure the patient’s posture and asses any variations within the patients balance.  This assessment has to be done before the treatment plan is carried through.  Your chiropractor may also do further testing in office to determine which sides of the body are more inflamed.  Once the thorough assessment is complete the chiropractor will begin to make adjustments to your spine.  These adjustments are done to help correct the underlying subluxation within the patient’s back.  This subluxation causes the herniated disc pain to become unbearable.  Therefore, correcting this issue will help the spine to correct the herniated disc.  This will also help to speed the recovery time and healing process. This may even help the patient not undergo surgery.  As each patient is different, the recovery time will vary.  Your Chiropractor should let you know what treatment plan is realistic for you.  You may have to be seen a few times a week or only a few times a month.  You may also be asked to participate in further physical therapy to help alleviate any additional pain.
