Foot Pain and Orthotics

Orthotics

Do you suffer needlessly from Foot Pain?  Foot Pain can be a debilitating problem that not only affects a patient’s gait but their quality of life as well.  The feet affect the entire kinetic chain of the body including the ankles, knees, and pelvis.  The pelvis can rotate and shift in many different directions including anterior, posterior, internal rotation, and external rotation.  Common presentations for a misaligned pelvis include a PI ilium (posterior-inferior) ilium, AS (anterior-superior) ilium, EX ilium (externally rotated) ilium, IN (internally rotated) ilium.

Treatment

One easy treatment for Foot Pain is getting fitted for custom orthotics.  Orthotics are specific inserts to put into the shoes that provide stability and comfort. These typically have two to three arch supports in them.  Some common treatments for these include Ultrasound, paraffin bath, massage therapy, chiropractic adjustments, and ice and heat therapy, rolling the foot across a frozen water bottle, golf, or racquet ball to stretch the plantar fascia.

Common Disorders of the Feet

Some common problems include but are not limited to the following: bunions, plantar fasciitis, sprain/strain, Achilles tendonitis, Morton’s Neuroma, and more.  The foot itself is made up of three arch supports and many bones.  The most commonly misaligned bones are the Calcaneus, Talus, Metatarsal heads, and Navicular.  Another successful treatment includes Chiropractic care to adjust the bones of the feet.

Podiatry

This is the study of the feet and includes the diagnosis and treatment of various disorders of the feet.  Podiatrists may elect to become surgeons or they may perform simple procedures and treatments in the office.  If trained surgeons they will take extended years of continued education to decipher the veins, arteries, tendons, and other complex structures of the feet.  There are also hot spots on the feet that are along meridians that can induce labor and delivery.  The feet can tell a lot about someone including how much toxicity is built up in them.  This is performed by placing the feet in a special bath with a solution that allows the body to rid itself of toxins.  The toxicity levels are measured and specifically what toxins are addressed.  The feet may lead to common underlying illnesses present in the body such as digestive issues with the colon and intestines.  It is recommended that an individual drink half their body weight in ounces per day.  Even more should be drunk if an individual exercises vigorously or drinks caffeinated beverages.
