According to CNNMoney and salary.com, the median salary of a licensed chiropractor is $85,273. They state that this information was taken from compiled human resource reports from all types and sizes of employers in different states and in different industries. According to payscale.com, the average chiropractic salary for a chiropractor with less than one year of experience ranges from $35,989-$50,285, $45,806-$80,359 for a chiropractor with 5-9 years of experience and $53,059-$120,753 for a chiropractic physician that has been in practice for over 20 years. The median annual salary reported in May of 2004, according to collegegrad.com was $69,910.

It is important to understand when researching chiropractor salaries that these averages may be dramatically changed when taking into account the size of an employer, the credentials of an employee and the industry in which they work. Another major factor that will and does affect the salary of a chiropractic physician is bonuses. A bonus structure is typically set in place for a chiropractor who is an associate at a private practice to reward their marketing and patient retention skills. The general goal is for a bonus to be achieved to increase a chiropractic salary. A bonus structure gives the chiropractor the potential for unlimited income growth, it is considered commission however, and will vary from month to month.  According to payscale.com, the highest paid chiropractors are employed by both the federal and state governments followed by self-employed chiropractors as well as hospital-employed chiropractors. For a chiropractic physician seeking employment, it is important to, first look for a health setting that is ideal, and then research what type of pay will be made available and if it is a good fit for both employee and employer.
