What are Massage Parlours?

According to Wikipedia, massage parlours are businesses that offer massage to patients.  In some instances, massage parlours may offer sex in addition to massage.   In a multitude of countries where prostitution is illegal, massage parlours serve as fronts for this entertainment act of business.  These illegal brothel’s disguised by massage parlours are extremely common within the United States, Canada, UK, South Korea, and the Philippines.  While not all massage parlours serve as forefront for prostitution, Rhode Island is where prostitution is legal “behind closed doors.”  There is an ongoing political debate here determining whether prostitution should be allowed.

Prostitution should be a scary reality for all people alike.  Thousands of women each year typically ranging from 12-16 years of age from Thailand, China, Laos, Burma, and Cambodia are human trafficked.  These young women are sent to work in the brothels of Bangkok or other countries and work as prostitutes in horrendous conditions against their will.  Most are lured in the hopes of modeling or the entertainment business and kidnapped against their will and sold as prostitutes.  This is a sad reality that is growing increasingly frightening in the United States every year.  Many movies have depicted this heinous crime and human rights abuse and violence against innocent women.  According to the National Crime Victim’s Rights Week and statistics provided by the US Dept. of Justice, Health and Human Services, “Each year estimated 14,500-17,500 foreigners are trafficked into the United States.  The largest number of people trafficked into the US come from East Asia and the Pacific, 5000-7000 victims.  The highest numbers come from Latin American, Europe, and Eurasia, 3,500-5,500.”  Massage parlours are typically illegal entities that exploit women and many times abuse them against their will.  Society needs to take a much closer look at this increasingly grown profession and realize the specific dangers it instills upon young women.
