How many times a year do you suffer from habitual back pain? You’re not alone. Nearly every American will experience some sort of back pain within their lifetime. Some individuals suffer from chronic, debilitating pain that requires prescription intervention and sometimes even surgery. There are easier solutions available, and sometimes many people don’t take advantage of them. Some of the alternative medicine approaches for back ache relief include Chiropractic care, acupuncture, massage therapy, physical therapy, exercise and stretching.
Chiropractic Care
A Chiropractor will evaluate and find the root of the back pain and focus on the entire body, not just the area of pain. They work with the nervous system, the most important body system in the entire body. The nervous system controls and coordinates every organ and body system in the entire body. A Chiropractor will use static and kinetic palpation to locate the area of subluxation and use manipulations to correct the mis-alignments. They may also incorporate the use of a hydrotherapy application like ice or heat, or use ultrasound or electrical stimulation to achieve the desired results of care. They may need to take x-rays to effectively diagnose the condition and the extent of injury.
Massage
Massage therapy and acupuncture are an excellent adjunct to chiropractic care. While chiropractors work on the bones, massage therapists will replenish the soft tissue and acupuncturists will balance the meridians and chakras of the body. All of these modalities will bring harmony and pain relief to the body. In some patients, the extent of damage is so severe that the only treatment is surgical intervention. Many times, in these cases, the surgery fails and must be repeated. The patient is left with residual pain and much scar tissue that decreases the overall range of motion.
