How much does a chiropractor earn per year?

The salary of a chiropractor can vary on location, education and training, size of the industry and years of experience. There is a very large national salary range, averaging anywhere from $35,000 to $140,000.  In 2006, the average earnings for a chiropractor was $65,220 per year.  Fifty percent of those chiropractors surveyed earned between $45,710 and $96,300 a year.  Chiropractic salaries vary on the geographical location of the practice.  In New York, a chiropractor’s average salary is $96,664, but in Miami, the average is $81,000 per year.  Statistics show the average salaries for the following cities:  Houston, $85,000; Los Angeles, $92,000; and Seattle, $90,000.   Like many professions, earnings in the beginning of a chiropractic career are lower.  As the physician builds clients and the practice grows, he or she will earn more money.  Also, the more education that the chiropractor earns, the more likely he or she will attract clients.  The salary range for individuals with less training is a lot lower than individuals who are highly trained and educated.  Education plays an important role in the chiropractic industry that can sometimes determine the success rate of the physician.     

Location can make a big difference. 

States that have a lot of chiropractic schools tend to have a lot more chiropractors.  California has four chiropractic schools, but the state of Florida only has one.  California has the most practicing chiropractors in the nation which makes their salaries slightly higher than other states.  While these chiropractors make more in California, taxes are higher, making it more expensive to run a business.  Chiropractors who practice in New York and Texas are also known to earn above average salary.
