A Chiropractic adjustment is performed to help correct the underlying subluxations within the body. These subluxations form overtime from poor posture, injuries, stress or even improper exercise. The Chiropractor will only perform an adjustment on the patient after they have been thoroughly examined and X-rayed. This will help the Chiropractor asses the prior damage and underlying issues. Next, the Chiropractor will review the X-ray information with his or her patient to show them any prior degeneration or damages.
Adjustment
The patient can also request a copy of their personal X-rays. After the assessment has been completed the Chiropractor will perform the adjustments on the patient. The adjustments assist in correcting these underlying subluxations. Each patient reacts to the adjustments differently. Some patients may need to be seen more frequently than others. The patient’s size, occupation, posture, and stress levels all contribute to the underlying subluxation. Patients that have an occupation that requires them to lift heavy machinery will often need more corrections.
What to expect
The adjustment doesn’t typically hurt. Some patients may felt a little discomfort while others don’t complain of feeling any discomfort or pain. This will vary with each patient and what adjustment in being made. It’s important that you always discuss any concerns or questions with your Chiropractor before or after your adjustment.
Other options
Your Chiropractor can also give you advice on any stretches or exercises you can do at home to assist in your care. Adjustments are just one of the tools that Chiropractors use. In many cases, massage and traction devices will also be used if necessary. Keep in mind that each Chiropractor’s approach may be a little different.
